ABOUT
With her radiant stage presence and warm, flexible voice, rising star Anna Gillingham is in demand internationally. Anna has performed on international stages in Italy, Germany, Austria and Asia. She looks forward to major house and role debuts in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. A natural linguist, Anna speaks French, Italian and German. She graduated with a double first from Queens' College, Cambridge University and a distinction from the opera school at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Anna’s recent highlights include Melisande; the fiery title role in a Baroque Ariadne auf Naxos; and Gerechtigkeit in Mozart’s earliest opera, Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots with Musicus Concentus Wien, for Theater an der Wien. Further career highlights include Pamina Die Zauberflöte at the Opera di Firenze in a much revered production by Damiano Michieletto, Pamina in 23 performances for Theater Basel, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring at the inaugural Grange Festival and for Opera di Firenze, and performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Atheneaum in Bucharest.
Anna made her international opera debut to critical acclaim in 2015 as the Governess in Britten's The Turn of the Screw at the Opera di Firenze. Further engagements include Frasquita Carmen with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and opera galas with the Nuremberg and Bilkent (Turkey) Symphony Orchestras. Recent concert highlights have included her debut as soprano soloist in the Brahms Requiem in Munich and in Bach’s Weinachtsoratorium at Gloucester Cathedral.
In recital, Anna has performed in many of London’s most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, LSO St. Luke’s and the Barbican, as well as at the Oxford Lieder, City of London and Cheltenham Festivals, and on In Tune for Radio 3 and for Classic FM. Anna gave her debut recital at the Warsaw Philharmonic with a recital inspired by the life and music of Pauline Viardot. Anna’s concert repertoire is vast, including works such as Mozart’s Requiem, Exsultate Jubilate, Vespers, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion & B Minor Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass & Creation, and the Fauré and Brahms Requiems.
